Intro
Hi.
Welcome to the Crafty Cards studio. If you're curious about
how we make our cards and custom invitations, let us show you
around.
We are located on the west end of Berkeley, California, down near the railroad tracks and the bay.
We have two printing presses squeezed into our shop, three cabinets
of type, and a menagerie of printers' blocks used to print images.
 
We have ten years of letterpress printing experience and nearly
that many years in the handmade greeting card business.
In this tour we will talk a little about type, presses, the
process of making a card, and how custom work comes together.
Type
One
of the building blocks of letterpress (literally) is type. The
typeface can make or break a composition.
We set our type by hand, letter by letter, and use antique printers'
blocks for almost all of our images.
